Are you DRY or DEHYDRATED?

ree

#Dryskin is a skin type. AKA alipidic skin. This skin type does not produce oil (sebum). Skin relies on oil to retain moisture. A protective layer, without this protective layer, you'll have dryness.

WHAT CAUSES DRY SKIN

  • Lifestyle

  • Environment

  • Hormones

  • Genetics

  • Age

WHAT DOES DRY SKIN LOOK LIKE?

  • Small/tighter pores resulting in a smoother texture. Pores are follicles that dilate or stretch due to oil production. Dry skin is oil dry, so therefore the pores never dilated resulting in a smoother complexion.

  • Dry skin is less likely to get acne due to no oil. Dry skin can still get the occasional hormonal break out.

  • Skin always feels dry and tight. May even be flakey and rough.

  • Fine lines and wrinkles are pronounced. (lifestyle and environment play a big roll in this as well)

  • Dryness mean the protective layer of the skin is compromised. This leads to sensitivity and inflammation. Inflammation anywhere in the body can lead to premature aging and disease.

WHAT CAN YOU DO ABOUT IT?

  • Choose the right moisturizer for your skin condition. You may need to change it depending on the season. Korean skincare specializes in hydrating, balancing and nourishing the skin. All the moisturizers I carry are packed with all the best ingredients.

  • Skincare formulated for dry skin

  • After cleansing be sure to apply your StoryDerm Aqua right away or other toners/moisturizer to lock in all hydration. (Cleanse, Aqua, Serums, Moisturizer, SPF)

  • Consider using a humidifier during the dry months.

DEHYDRATED SKIN

ree

#Dehydratedskin is a skin condition, lacks water. If you still produce oil and get breakouts but your skin feels dry, this is dehydration. It can be caused by medications like antihistamines, smoking, and alcohol to name a few. The biggest culprit is overly using harsh products. I've chosen #Koreanskincare in my skincare practice because their belief is to use non harsh ingredients in their products. The ingredients in are the purest form to nourish and #hydrate the skin. Dehydrated skin will feel dry, itchy and tight. It may also burn when you put on any products, this is because your barrier has been compromised.

WHAT DOES DEHYDRATED SKIN FEEL LIKE?

  • Skin appears tight and shiny

  • Fine lines as in photo are more prominent.

WHAT CAUSES DEHYDRATED SKIN?

  • Lifestyle habits

  • Medications

  • Environment

  • Over using harsh products

  • age/hormones

WHAT CAN YOU DO ABOUT IT?

  • Use appropriate products for your skin condition

  • Discontinue harsh products

  • Give your skin 6 weeks with appropriate skincare to repair your barrier.

Dehydration affects your skin's ability to perform essential functions like cell turnover. Without adequate hydration, your skin does not shed its outer layer frequently enough, and dead cells accumulate on its surface. This contributes to clogged pores, congestion and dull complexion. Home care with regular #facials will keep your skin healthy and nourished.
